Direct + Compassionate

Welcome to DC Positive Therapy, direct + compassionate therapy for individuals and couples. I am a licensed psychologist with over ten years of experience providing individual and couples therapy. My work is dedicated to helping people develop healthy, meaningful, and satisfying lives and relationships. I work with adults and feel comfortable treating wide-ranging clinical issues and diagnoses.

My practice frequently focuses on relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, and struggles with identity. I have extensive experiences working with Veteran, military, and law enforcement issues in therapy. I also have broad experience working with clients who have strong faith and religious backgrounds, and regularly incorporate client’s understandings of their faith into therapy.

Clinically, I aim to help my clients live meaningful and satisfying lives – through reinforcing adaptive behaviors, understanding and identifying each person’s unique character strengths and values, and improve the quality of important relationships.

I believe that therapy is most effective when you feel comfortable and connected with your therapist. I am committed to helping you receive the services that will be the most helpful to you. I offer complimentary, brief phone consultations to discuss your circumstances and current needs to determine whether working together would be a good fit.

Please explore this website to learn a bit more about my practice and contact me to schedule consultation or simply ask any questions that you might have.

About

Hi, I am Dr. Aubrey Bruce. I received my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. I also hold a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Denison University. I completed my APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Catholic University of America. I have also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Durham VA Medical Center in North Carolina, specializing in psychiatric rehabilitation and couples therapy.

I have also received supervised training in co-parent coaching, substance use, community mental health, college counseling centers, and career counseling. After receiving my doctorate, I worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital. I also spent several years working intensely with law enforcement officers and their family members. In addition to clinical work, I have worked as an adjunct professor at George Washington University and Virginia Commonwealth University.

I am licensed to provide psychological services in Washington state, Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. I also am eligible through PSYPACT to practice psychology in all participating states. I am also recognized as a licensed psychologist by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
